These songs this record is our anthem to the world saying, "Listen, we know there's a lot of darkness in this life, but in the end, light is gonna win." And we wanna be the light to people and just show them who the light of the world is. Vocalist Kyle Kupecky comments about the meaning behind the name: Months later, the group signed to Reunion Records. The group's name changed to Anthem Lights sometime after their independent release as Yellow Cavalier. The group changed their name to Anthem Lights before any other projects were released. The EP was released independently on May 26, 2009. The group recorded one self-titled EP under this name in 2009. The original name of the group was Yellow Cavalier.

Powell joined the group at the last minute. After receiving notifications by e-mail, Graham flew from Los Angeles to meet with Kupecky and Grimm, who gladly accepted membership. Powell and Graham's contacts came to a consensus that Kyle Kupecky and Caleb Grimm would be the best candidates for the project. It was then that Powell and Graham decided to alert their contacts at Liberty University in an effort to recruit members for what is now a singing group. As the final vocal work was being installed, Powell and Graham came to a realization that the songs being written would be more appropriate performed as a group. Both he and Alan Powell were living in Los Angeles, writing music for Graham's solo project. So hopefully people enjoy it as much as we’ve had making it.Anthem Lights began as a solo project for vocalist Chad Graham in the fall of 2007. “We’ve never done anything like this before. “The mainstream space is a large, oversaturated space with so much content and shows and music and movies, but we just wanted to do something different, something a little fun,” Spencer said. While A SHOW ABOUT ANTHEM LIGHTS is comedic, it does not compromise quality or integrity, according to Kane and Grimm. I’ll turn YouTube on for them, like even YouTube kids and sometimes an ad will pop up and I’m like, ‘I don’t really love that, you’re three, I don’t know that you should really see that.’ Personally I am passionate about creating content that is safe and just wholesome for everybody.” I’ve got three kids, so I love the idea of a Pure Flix type platform where I could just put it on and it’s safe. “We’re trying to make, much like our music, wholesome, quality content that is safe for anybody to listen to. “It’s the same with the show,” Grimm added. “So we look at that as like we are on our own faith journeys together, and we’re working that out in real time and will continue to, and music is just something that we’re doing together and it will of course, spill out into that because how could it not? “We’ve always strived to see it more like we’re men of faith, who are in a band, not the other way around,” Grimm explained. The men are also passionate about incorporating their faith into every aspect of their lives. “Matthew 5 calls us the light of the world, so we were passionate about working that idea into the name,” Grimm told Movieguide®. Grimm said that the band’s name is inspired by Matthew 5, which emphasizes the biblical call of reaching people with the Gospel.
